UCLA has been notified to lose some of its federal research funds for claims of “anti -Semitism and bias”, according to the School Chancellor.
“UCLA received a notice that the Federal Government, through its control of the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other agencies, suspend certain research funds to UCLA,” said Foreign Minister of UCLA, Julio Frenk, in a statement published Thursday. “This is not just a loss for researchers who trust critical subsidies. It is a loss for Americans throughout the country whose work, health and future depend on the innovative work we do.”
Frenk said “hundreds of subsidies” can be lost due to the decision.
“The news we receive is very disappointing. With this decision, you can miss hundreds of subsidies, negatively affecting the lives and work that changes the life of the researchers, teachers and staff of the UCLA,” said the chancellor. “In his warning for us, the federal government affirms that anti -Semitism and bias as the reasons. This long -range fine of the investigation of life of life does nothing to address any supposed discrimination.”
Just earlier this week, UCLA reached a $ 6 million agreement with Jewish students to resolve a demand claiming that allowed pro-palestinian protesters to prevent students and Jewish students from accessing parts of the campus.

“We share the objective of eradicating anti -Semitism throughout society. Anti -Semitism does not take place in our campus, or any form of discrimination. We recognize that we can improve, and I am committed to doing so,” Frenk said in his statement on Thursday. “Confronting the scourge of anti -Semitism effectively requires consideration, commitment and sustained effort, and UCLA has taken solid measures to make our campus a safe and cozy environment for all students.”
UCLA said he is “actively evaluating our best course of action” after the announcement that he will lose part of his federal research funds.
“In recent months, our leadership team has been preparing for this situation and has developed comprehensive contingency plans. We will do our best to protect the interests of the faculty, students and staff, and to defend our values and principles,” Frenk said.
“Federal research subsidies are not brochures. Our researchers compete fiercely for these subsidies, proposing the work that the government itself considers vital for health, security and economic future of the country,” the Foreign Minister continued. “Subsidies lead to medical advances, economic progress, better national security and global competitiveness, these are national priorities.”
